"Guidelines for effective Captivate movies"
David Locke, WordSmith LLC (www.wordsmith.net)
presented at WritersUA, Portland, March 2008
Click the link in the slides row (below) to open the presentation as a PDF in a separate window. PDF links aren't always friendly, so you'll find the examples listed by slide number, with notes.
I selected the research findings for the presentation from a growing body of studies you'll find under the general heading of visual cognition, often abbreviated to viscog, as in the Viscog Lab at the University of Illinois, where Daniel Simons hangs out.
Other researchers: Daniel Levin (Vanderbilt); Christopher Chabris (Harvard); Richard Wiseman (Univ Hertfordshire). I'm sure there are lots more people you can find if you look; it's a fast-growth field in psych.

In the linked page, click the third link to see the guerilla/basketball video. Requires Java. You may have to click the Java window several times to initiate playback. Other links of equal interest for Captivate purposes. |

From a colleague, who does very nice work. Note: the captions lead the audio, and their content does not duplicate the audio stream. |
